Mountain States Health Alliance announces leadership change in northeast region

ABINGDON, Va. -- Mountain States Health Alliance leaders announced Thursday the planned departure of Northeast Market CEO Sean McMurray. Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia, includes a 44-bed acute care hospital, a 109-bed nursing care facility, and a variety of outreach programs. There are more than 50 physicians serving on its active medical staff. SCCH offers surgical services, rehabilitation services, women’s services, emergency services, cardio-pulmonary services, most acute care including home health, skilled nursing and long-term care. Other services include a diagnostic sleep center, cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation and an inpatient rehabilitation unit.

Heart Care

We are an accredited cardiac and pulmonary rehab center with state-of-the-art equipment.  Many rehabs in our system are adopting our model.   Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program of the cardiopulmonary department designed to offer more rehabilitative services as well as diagnostic testing to individuals so they do not have to travel to larger more urban areas.

Additional cancer care services are available through Mountain States Health Alliance’s cancer network at Mountain States Cancer Care centers at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon and at Johnson City Medical Center. We will arrange for you to get the care you need at the most convenient location.

Our office hours are Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. excluding major holidays.

Inpatient Rehabilitation

Smyth County Community Hospital’s rehabilitation program proudly serves Smyth County and neighboring communities. Our program meets all CMS (Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services) standards. CMS conducts regular surveys to ensure that providers are meeting the strict criteria to be considered an inpatient rehab facility. The results demonstrate our commitment to excellent care.

Our program provides ongoing care and prepares patients to return to their prior level of function.A comprehensive team helps the individual improve in the following areas:

Francis Marion Manor

Francis Marion Manor Health & Rehabilitation, a 109-bed licensed nursing care facility, is an entity of Smyth County Community Hospital, which is a member of Mountain States Health Alliance. Francis Marion Manor Health & Rehabilitation provides both skilled-level and nursing facility-level health care services. A full scope of services is provided, including 24-hour nursing services, a registered dietitian, physical and occupational therapists, a speech language pathologist, certified activity staff,  a social worker, a hair stylist and medical director.

Emergency and First Assist Urgent Care

Our Emergency Room is a fully staffed, certified level III department.

A physician is on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week to care for your medical needs. In addition to our physicians, we also staff either a family nurse practitioner or physician assistant 7 days a week from 11am – 10pm to expand care by treating ear aches, sore throats, burns, simple fractures, and most other minor emergencies.

A helipad for air emergency vehicles such as Wings Air Rescue is located on the SCCH campus.

First Assist Urgent Care

Filling a need for the residents of Smyth County and surrounding areas, Mountain States Medical Group opened the county’s first urgent care facility inside the medical office building at Smyth County Community Hospital, 245 Medical Park Drive, Suite C.

Staffed by primary care providers from the local community, the state-of-the-art urgent care facility offers treatment of minor illnesses and injuries in a setting that's both convenient and cost effective.

Orthopedics

Our physicians offer a full array of orthopedic services, from preventative diagnostic testing to surgery. Our orthopedic certified nurses and experienced joint care team have developed a comprehensive, planned course of treatment specifically for patients undergoing surgery. Through utilization of the most advanced technologies and minimally invasive procedures, we are putting you on the pathway to get back to what you love.

General Surgery

Smyth County Community Hospital has always offered a wide range of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures right here, close to home. Now we're proud to announce the addition of a second full-time general surgeon to our staff.

Smyth County was named a top hospital for its patiehnt care and experience by the Centers for Medicare and Medicade Services. Furthermore, Smyth County was among only 18 hospitals nationwide to receive Premier's  QUEST® Award for High-value Healthcare for top performance in all of the six areas measured in Premier's QUEST® collaborative. The areas measured included harm, mortality, readmissions, costs, patient experience and evidence-based care.

Direct Access Lab Testing

Mountain States offers convenient direct lab testing at our hospital. Direct Access testing is a laboratory service that allows you to order tests based on health concerns. Physician referral is not required. It is convenient, affordable and fits into your busy lifestyle. Medicare patients may find this service beneficial since many screening tests are not covered or may not be paid because of frequency limits.

  • You order lab tests based on your concerns
  • No physician order or appointment required
  • Accepted forms of payments: cash, credit/debit card, Health Savings Account (HSA) card
  • There are no bill or insurance claims
