Why MSHA Orthopedic Services

Our orthopedic programs focus on joint replacement surgery and short-term rehabilitation. We care for these patients in a special area of the hospital designated just for orthopedic services.

We believe the patient plays a key role in ensuring a successful recovery. Our goal is to involve the patient in their treatment through each step of the program including participation in group and individual exercises that involve the family and other joint replacement patients.

Indian Path Medical Center Orthopedic Services

Indian Path Medical Center has proudly served Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and southeastern Kentucky over the past 40 years. Our dedicated team of surgeons delivers expert treatment in a variety of orthopedic and spine services. With “Bringing Loving Care to Health Care” as our core value, our multidisciplinary team will develop a plan of care centered around you and your family’s individual needs. In December of 2012, The Joint Replacement Center at Indian Path was the first hospital in the region to receive accreditation as a “Joint Commission Center of Excellence.”

Indian Path Medical Center offers a full array of orthopedic and spine services, from preventative and diagnostic testing to surgery, including the following services:

Diagnostic:

  • MRI

  • Laboratory testing

Pre-Surgery:

  • Physical fitness training before surgery with The Wellness Connection pre-joint replacement program at Mountain States Rehabilitation
  • Comprehensive education class before surgery for total hip and knee replacement patients
  • Functional assessment before surgery
  • Ambassador program by former patients

Surgical:

  • Joint replacement
  • Spine surgery
  • Spiritual/pastoral care
  • Individual and group physical therapy
  • Orthopedic trained nurses

Post-Surgery:

  • Dedicated team that will develop a plan of care for when you go home
  • Physical assessment 90 days after surgery
  • On-site Transitional Care Specialist to aid in pharmaceutical and equipment needs

Johnston Memorial Hospital Orthopedic Services

Johnston Memorial Hospital offers a full array of orthopedic and spine services, from preventative and diagnostic testing to surgery.

Diagnostic:

  • 3 Tesla wide-bore MRI
  • 128-Slice/cardiac 
  • Diagnostic X-ray
  • Ultrasound 
  • PET/CT 

Pre-Surgery:

  • Comprehensive education class before surgery for total hip and knee replacement patients
  • Functional assessment before surgery

Surgical:

  • Joint replacement
  • Individual and group physical therapy

Post-Surgery:

  • Dedicated team that will develop a plan of care for when you go home
  • On-site Pharmacy

Norton Community Hospital Orthopedic Services

Norton Community Hospital believes it is important that our patients are able to receive top orthopedic care right here in our community. From initial consult through surgery and rehabilitation, Norton Community’s team is ready to take care of many orthopedic patient needs right here close to home.

Norton Community Hospital offers the following orthopedic services:

Rehabilitation:

  • Onsite acute care physical and occupational therapists
  • Onsite post-acute rehabilitation programs including orthopedics, skilled care beds and inpatient rehabilitation facility
  • Outpatient rehab program with services for degenerative diseases and sports, soft tissue, work, hand and post-surgical injuries 
  • Nationally ranked inpatient rehab unit with greater than 90% discharge rate of orthopedic patients to home
  • Newly renovated and expanded 12-bed inpatient rehab unit providing private rooms

Sycamore Shoals Hospital Orthopedic Services

Sycamore Shoals Hospital offers diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitation services for a wide variety of orthopedic needs.

Surgical services performed in our newly renovated suites include:

  • Total joint replacement
  • Arthroscopy
  • Fracture care
  • Shoulder surgery
  • Hand surgery (carpel tunnel and trigger finger)

Rehabilitation services:

  • Onsite acute care physical and occupational therapists
  • Outpatient rehab services for post-surgery, hand, work, and sports injuries in our state-of-the-art outpatient clinic

Joint Replacement

Mountain States Health Alliance offers Joint Replacement Centers at three locations: Indian Path Medical Center, Johnson City Medical Center, and Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Spine Care

The majority of people with neck and back pain will not require surgery.

Southwest Virginia hospitals host heart-healthy community events in conjunction with American Heart Month

To raise awareness of cardiovascular disease and promote healthy communities, Johnston Memorial Hospital, Russell County Medical Center and Smyth County Community Hospital are hosting events Feb. 13, Feb. 17 and Feb. 24 aimed at helping people achieve better heart health. Riverboat Casino Gala raises money for Smyth County youth

The Smyth County Hospital HealthTrust is presenting its seventh annual gala. The HealthTrust is Smyth County Community Hospital’s nonprofit foundation and raises money for community needs.
